The city of Minneapolis was originally developed because of its proximity of Fort Snelling, the first major US military presence in the area, and by its location on Saint Anthony Falls, which provided power for sawmills and flour mills. Although the sawmills and flour mills no longer exist, the city has repurposed the riverfront, which is now home to parkland, Mill City Museum and the Guthrie Theater.
Downtown Minneapolis is spotted with a range of restaurants from corner deli to fine dining, dozens of eclectic shop stops, more than one professional athletic stadium, multiple craft breweries, a thriving business district and a premier destination for art lovers. Students speak 90 different languages at home and most school communications are printed in English, Hmong, Spanish and Somali.
